The Old Course, which opened for play in 1922 and was recently updated by the Fazio Group, is elegantly simple in design with little or no disruption to the land. Although the course has undergone numerous changes over the years, the emphasis of each renovation has been on preserving the integrity of the original Herbert Strong design, while constantly improving each hole. The gently rolling terrain, framed by magnificent old specimen trees, defines the beauty of the Old Course which was once a working farm. There are numerous bunkers protecting small greens with devilish contours. The USGA has chosen the Old Course for six of its national championships: The 1951 U.S. Amateur, the 1983 U.S. Junior Amateur, the 1987 U.S. Senior Amateur, the 1992 and 2000 U.S. Senior Opens, and the 2009 U.S. Women’s Open.
